What Is Location-Based Content on Shopify?

Location-based content means showing different storefront elements — banners, hero sections, announcement bars, countdown timers — to shoppers in different regions. A shopper in Tamil Nadu sees a Pongal campaign banner; a shopper in Gujarat sees a Navratri offer. Same store, same URL, different content.

This type of personalisation increases relevance, engagement, and conversion. A banner in the shopper's local festival context outperforms a generic national banner every time.

Shopify does not support regional content natively. Lokally adds this capability through Shopify Theme Extensions — app blocks placed in the theme editor that render the correct content based on the shopper's pincode.

How Lokally Solves This

8 Personalisable Content Types

Lokally supports location-based rules for: Homepage hero sections (image + heading + CTA), Announcement bars (top-of-page strips), Product page banners, Collection page banners, Product descriptions, Badge text (e.g. 'Festival Offer', 'Metro Exclusive'), Countdown timers (for time-limited regional offers), and Marquee text strips.

Each content type can be targeted to any combination of pincode, city, state, or country.

Scheduled Content — Activate and Deactivate Automatically

Each Lokally content rule has an optional start date and end date. Configure a Navratri banner for Gujarat to activate on October 1 and deactivate on October 12 — then forget about it. It runs and stops automatically.

This means your festival campaign calendar can be set up weeks in advance. No manual updates, no forgetting to deactivate a Diwali banner in January.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of content can I personalise by location?

Lokally supports location-based personalisation for: homepage hero sections, announcement bars, product page banners, collection page banners, product descriptions, badge text (e.g. 'Festival Offer'), countdown timers, and marquee text strips.

Does location-based content require theme code changes?

No. Lokally uses Shopify Theme Extensions — app blocks that you place in your theme using the Shopify Theme Editor (drag and drop). No liquid, no CSS, no developer required.

Can I schedule content to show only during a festival period?

Yes. Each Lokally content rule has an optional start date and end date. Schedule a Navratri banner for Gujarat to show only from Oct 1–12, and it activates and deactivates automatically.

Can I show different homepage hero images per city?

Yes. You can configure different hero banner content (image + heading + subtext + CTA button) per pincode, city, or state. A shopper in Mumbai sees a Mumbai-specific hero; a shopper in Jaipur sees a Rajasthan-specific hero.

Can I show different product descriptions per region?

Yes. Lokally's content engine lets you override product description text, badge labels, and USP callouts per region. This is useful for highlighting locally relevant features or compliance certifications.

How does the system know which content to show?

Content rules are triggered by the shopper's pincode — the same pincode they enter for delivery. Once a pincode is entered, all matching location-based content rules activate immediately.
